Potentially extremely dangerous fitting, but after understanding the mechanism and with two extremely strong & capable helpers it's fixed.

works perfectly but not for the faint hearted as fitting to an old door is really quite tough and can be frightening. There is a lot of power in this spring. So the part is perfect and exactly what i needed but it is not for every DIYer.

blue spring like for like replacement of original -white wheel needed slight oiling to move freely-fitting is another matter -tricky and potentially dangerous-wear eye protection and good gloves.Ideally have a helper-if not confident get some proper help-I fixed cable loop(after unhooking) that is on rollers(garage door end) to near upper wheel with screw driver through same loop as you will need to pull this through later then fix other cable loop to hook on spring box(still requires effort+++)Then the really difficult bit is pulling on screw driver you have to re hook onto roller end of door-don't forget to lubricate moving parts-GOOD Luck

Did the job - 40 year door now back in service! Taking a one meter spring and stretching it to two meters is a challenged but there are ways. I lifted the door up to reduce the distance between the end of the spring and its clasp, released the cable from the door frame end, connected the other end of the cable to the new spring and used a short steel rod through the eye of the cable to pull it down on to its anchor point on the dorr frame. Be careful a lot of tension builds up when you stretch the spring by 100%!

The pulley appears to be slightly larger than the original Garador one which made it difficult to get the holding tab to go into the securing slot on the spring housing plate. Eventually had to bend the side of the housing plate out to get it to fit. Other than that it went together well but needs at least 3 people to stretch the spring into it's locked out position so that the wire cables that lift the door can be fitted.

Stretching a spring this size to twice it's length is quite a job. After plenty of head scratching, tea and more than a 'few coats of looking at' we used ratchet straps fixed to something solid at one end. You need two - one to hold the stretched spring whilst you unravel the other that has reached the end of its travel. Repeat until it's stretched the distance and you can hook it to where it's supposed to go. Bit of a faff but gets the job done.Lubricated with aerosol chain lube to get into the nooks and crannies. A few months later the spring looks like it is starting to even itself out.
