Exactly as good as they cost (5x7 review installed in Mazda/Ford 6x8 hole)
First off, I'm not giving these 4 stars because they're the greatest speakers ever. I'm giving them 4 stars because they performed exactly as I expected for the price. We all know that they'll NEVER take 440w and they're not professional quality speakers by any stretch of the imagination. Soo.. Just ignore that and move on.Installation: I installed these in a '93 Ford Escort in the rear location. The mounting ears on them facilitate using them in Mazda/Ford 6x8 applications without an issue. Knowing that these speakers won't tolerate much bass (even the best 5x7s on the market won't and they don't produce much bass anyhow), I installed them with 100v 100 uF capacitors which results in about a 400hz 6db/octave crossover point. If that's over your head, I'm saying "bass blockers" on them (I just did it for $0.10/ea with actual electronics parts and a soldering iron instead of $5/ea with "bass blockers"). I recommend you do the same. The Good: Obviously the price is the first thing that comes to mind! Moving on... They actually don't sound too bad at all and would probably be a large upgrade over most stock speakers. The factory speakers in the Thunderscort gave up the ghost long ago so I can't make a fair comparison. The ARE exceptionally "bright" or "shrill" on the high notes, but you can just turn the treble down (or build a slightly more advanced crossover than a "bass blocker") to fix that. They play plenty loud enough to hear in a vehicle that NEVER had a quiet interior. The mid-bass, which is really all a 5x7 is capable of anyhow, is right on the money. The Bad: The 2-way stage that sits over the 5x7 cone is WAY too high. Lanzar made no attempt to sink it down into the cone and these having a super high installed height. This is obviously no problem if you plan to cut holes in stuff and make the included grills fit, but if you want a factory appearance by installing them under your existing grills you're in for a challenge. I've had this issue before on other aftermarket speakers (5x7s, 4x6s, etc) and can usually get around it by prying the plastic rings off of the factory speakers and installing them on top of the aftermarket speakers and possibly filing some of the mounting lugs off of the factory grills... Not the case here. The 2-way assembly is SO tall that even after adding the plastic rings as spacers I still need to soak up about another 1/2" of clearance to be able to seal the front of the speaker off from the rear of the speaker. Separating the air between the two sides is CRITICAL if you expect them to sound decent at all. Sooo... To get these to work in your vehicle you're going to need to keep in mind the height required between the speaker and the grill face. In an Escort this isn't a huge deal since there is plenty of depth in the hatch area to hang them "lower" under the grills, but you're going to have to make something out of cardboard, wood, or whatever, to soak up the space. OR... Just hang them in there with longer screws, smash the 2-way stage into the grill, and call it good enough. The Ugly: Speaking of screws... The screws that Lanzar includes with these things have heads so small that they slip through the mounting ears on the speaker if they're not aligned PERFECTLY. The screws probably work fine for attaching them to the included grills, but they will get your nowhere if you want to use your stock grills. You're going to need to make a trip to the hardware store, no question, if you buy these.. No big deal, really, but you should know ahead of time. Conclusion: For the price they're fantastic. I don't think you can do any better for the money even on the used market. If you want to take the time to install them correctly (crossovers, mounting gremlins, etc) they're just dandy. If you want something a bit more drop-in friendly, you're probably going to need to spend about twice as much money (and still need to fab some things up anyhow... it's just the nature of the beast) to buy a speaker that is designed a bit better. They're also not going to create any sort of bass, at all, so don't attempt to ask them to by not running crossovers on them or at least turning the bass down on your source unit. If your goal is to replace a defective factory speaker, or build a very very budget friendly system with a subwoofer, these are an excellent choice. I think of these as a great buy for someone just getting started out in car audio.

Entry Level, not worth full list price
Here's an honest review. These are decent. They sound boxy, and the tweeters being 2, aren't really cutting through that much. The woofer really dominates the sound, and even with a blend of different eq's this sound still isn't the best. It's mid heavy on its own and should definitely be paired with higher range speakers or tweeters.I purchased this pair from the warehouse deal section on Amazon for around $8 since I have been curious about the sound of these newer Lanzar's for a few years. For this price, these speakers are fine, work and sound alright, nothing special. Don't expect them to rock out cleanly in your car. They almost sound more like a Midrange, and for. The money you could just purchase a Pyramid Midrange for under $12 each(about the price of these Lanzar's) that's something to think about. For the normal price of $25, they aren't not worth the money, and they should not be considered unless you can purchase them for $10 or less.Buy a pair of Rockford Fosgate's for about $5-10 more if you are looking for musicality (Rockford uses silk dome tweeters and sound really smooth and nice). Not saying Rockford is the only way to go, just price difference is nominal if you are looking for better quality sound or even DS18's are really amazing for the same price range as these.Heck if you can find some Boss or Pyle speakers for around $10 (warehouse deal), I'd recommend those over the Lanzar's for better sound quality.I added a couple of pictures and a video of my work shop set up with an old KLH speaker box customized for car speakers. I have the 6.5in Lanzar's with the Pioneer 4in 2 ways. The Pioneers really helps the high sound quality and pair decently together. Without the Pioneer high range the Lanzar's would be Midrange heavy, as I stated earlier. In the video, I am using a cross over for mids and highs to shine through and a 300hz and below cutting out the low rang and they still sound boxy.If you find them inexpensive, pick them up, why not... Lanzar used to be an amazing and high end company. I have many years of experience with the company in the later 90's early 2000's with their subwoofer's and competitive lines.Unfortunately they are not as quality once they were bought out. I understand that these 6.5 inch speakers are entry level, but they lack sparkle and I've heard Pyle and Boss speakers better than these. One last thought, the magnet isn't that large and the claim that these are 100 Watts RMS per speaker is not a true statement. I believe a fair number should be 45 Watts RMS, if that. The marketing has over hyped these speakers but reality is not on the spec sheet.

Just a good speak

Expect for them to sound metallic until you burn them in (1000+ hours of listening)
They’re new speakers, so if you understand speakers they won’t sound their best until enough use has elapsed. Good sounding frequency response and good for home theatre, make sure to build a box for them though
